Walking and fitnessWalking is widely acknowledged as an excellent way to improve and maintain your fitness. For your Daleswalk holiday we do not expect you to have a supremely high level of fitness before you come, but some degree of aerobic exercise before your holiday will help to make it more enjoyable and less of an effort. As a rough guide, if you regularly (eg two or three times a week) do aerobic exercise for around 30 minutes you should not need to do anything further in preparation. Also if you walk regularly (say once a week or every two weeks) distances of 6 to 9 miles over undulating terrain then again no additional preparation should be required. If you are a stranger to exercise, then it may well be worth doing some walking and/or gentle jogging in the weeks leading up to your holiday. This does not need to be very intense, just enough to let your body know that it needs to do some work. If you have any questions on this area please contact us for advice. |
